Township of Champlain announces Community Grants (Canada)
Section
The Township of Champlain continues its commitment to supporting local non-profit organizations through the Community Grant program.
This initiative provides financial assistance to Champlain-based groups delivering programs and services that help keep residents active, healthy, and engaged in their communities. The funding is intended to strengthen grassroots organizations whose work directly benefits the broader community.
To ensure fairness and transparency, the program outlines specific eligibility requirements. Applicants must be registered not-for-profit organizations with a primary focus within the Township, and they must provide their incorporation number. Proposals must show evidence of other financial and in-kind contributions, such as fundraising or volunteer support, to demonstrate sustainability. Only future projects will be considered, and repeat funding depends on fulfilling reporting requirements from previous grants. Each grant is guaranteed for a single fiscal year, without an obligation for renewal.
While the program offers valuable support, certain costs and organizations are excluded. Funding cannot be used for debt repayment, operating deficits, management salaries, retroactive expenses, or projects that primarily serve closed memberships. Political activities, conference expenses, and initiatives that only benefit individuals or specific groups are also ineligible. Furthermore, individuals, businesses, for-profit organizations, and publicly funded bodies such as hospitals and schools are not permitted to apply.
The Township also emphasizes accountability and prudent financial planning. Organizations seeking a significant funding increase beyond three percent must justify the request and clearly explain how the additional funds will create added benefits for the community. By establishing clear boundaries and expectations, the Community Grant program ensures that funding is directed toward projects that maximize local impact, foster inclusion, and strengthen community life in Champlain.
