The Severn Waste Services Community Action Fund (SWS CAF), supported through the Landfill Communities Fund, is once again accepting applications this autumn.

The 2025–4 round offers local organisations in Herefordshire and Worcestershire the opportunity to apply for grants between £2,000 and £20,000.

The program targets community-led projects within a 10-mile radius of specified landfill sites, including Pershore, Leominster, and Hartlebury. Projects must take place at public amenities like village halls, parks, skate parks, and museums that are accessible to all. Grants can fund physical improvements such as window replacements, play equipment, accessible paths, or biodiversity enhancements in natural spaces, as long as the total project cost remains under £500,000.

Funding is not available for salaries, regular operational expenses, new building foundations, or structural extensions. The program favors proposals that demonstrate clear community need, broad support and consultation, sustainability, value for money, and tangible positive outcomes for the local area. Applications must include evidence such as consultation notes, cost quotes, site photos, and any necessary permissions, with preference given to environmentally-conscious approaches that incorporate recycled or energy-efficient materials.

Eligible applicants include registered charities, parish councils, sports clubs, and local authorities, provided they hold ownership or a long-term lease on the project site. Successful projects undergo a competitive selection process culminating in a funding agreement and “ready-to-start” guidance—ensuring funds are released only when the agreement is signed.

This funding window offers an excellent way for grassroots organisations to transform community spaces, enhance local amenities, and build stronger, greener environments for residents across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
