Golden Plains Shire Council’s Community Strengthening Grants Program offers financial support for local projects, programs, and activities in Golden Plains Shire communities.

Funding Information
- Grants of up to $7,000 are available in three streams:
- Healthy Connected Community
- Community Inclusion
- Environment and Sustainability
What does the program not support?
- The program does not support:
- Equipment purchases which are not part of a project, program or activity.
- Infrastructure/capital improvements including installation of fixed equipment (e.g. cooling/heating system).
- Annual or ongoing community events
What will the Council not fund?
- There are some things Council does not fund. This is not exhaustive, and Council will make the final decision on what is deemed to be not funded.
- Applicant whose project has received the Community Strengthening Grants funding for the same activity (you cannot be funded twice).
- Individuals cannot be the applicant.
- Applicant labour, professional fees, hire charges for applicant-owned equipment, room/building/hall hire fee if the licensee is the applicant, which should be shown as an in-kind contribution.
- Items that should/could be covered by the Applicant’s insurance.
- Activities that promote alcohol and other drug, tobacco and e-cigarettes, and gambling harm.
- Projects that only provide direct financial benefit to a commercial business or individual with no significant community outcome.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must be a community group or organisation.
- Community groups and organisations must be:
- not for profit; and
- incorporated or have an auspice arrangement.
- Community groups and organisations must have more than two active members or demonstrate active involvement/partnership with other local groups.
- Groups may submit multiple applications per round, but they must be for different projects and cannot be the same application over multiple streams.
- Government organisations and agencies are not eligible to apply. However, kindergartens, Committees of Management, other community committees and local branches of larger organisations (e.g. CFA and SES) are eligible where significant community benefit can be demonstrated.
- The project must be carried out within the Shire and/or benefit Golden Plains Shire communities and residents.
- Primary and Secondary schools are eligible to apply as long as the project is not solely curriculum-based and can strongly demonstrate a partnership with another community organisation or have a joint use agreement in place guaranteeing community access.
- Applicant based outside of the Golden Plains Shire must demonstrate a partnership with community groups, Traditional Owners groups, and business and other organisations within the Golden Plains Shire.
- Previous funded applicant must have no outstanding debts or overdue acquittals with Golden Plains Shire Council.
