The Explorers Club is accepting applications for its Stephenson Exploration Advancement Grant Program to support exploration and field research for marine exploration and conservation projects.

Applicants are strongly recommended to download the form as a worksheet before filling it in online. Once ready to submit, it is advisable to set aside at least 45 minutes to complete the online form, as information will not be saved if the browser is closed before submission.

Project titles should be concise and avoid overly technical language to ensure clarity for reviewers from diverse backgrounds. While projects may be multidisciplinary, applicants are asked to select the predominant category, with space to elaborate further in the application. The project description should briefly and clearly provide background, state project goals, methodologies, intended outcomes, and the potential impact—culturally, environmentally, or both—while avoiding scientific jargon and abbreviations. Supplementary materials such as images, video, and maps can be uploaded separately.

Two letters of support must be uploaded to ensure the application is complete for review. Ethical concerns should be addressed explicitly, as they are given close consideration in the evaluation process. Applicants must also explain the status of any required permits, including when they expect to receive them, and submit copies when available. If permits are only obtainable in-country, grantees are expected to forward copies to the Explorers Club grants team once secured.

Applicants should note that the Explorers Club cannot consider research proposals for work being conducted in China or by Chinese citizens, due to restrictions relating to NGO grant awards. The application deadline is: Monday, October 13, 2025 at 6:00 PM EST.
