RFAs: Best Practices for Ecological Restoration in Brazil
Section
The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), a global initiative supported by international partners including the European Union, the Global Environment Facility, the World Bank, Conservation International, and several governments, is calling for proposals from consultants to document best practices in ecological restoration in the Cerrado Biodiversity Hotspot.
This consultancy will focus on gender-responsive conservation and the sustainable use of biodiversity, with the goal of producing a knowledge product that can be replicated both within and beyond the Cerrado.
The Cerrado, one of the most biologically rich savannas in the world, faces growing threats from deforestation, land conversion, and climate change. Civil society organizations in the region, supported by CEPF grants, have pioneered innovative approaches to ecological restoration that not only safeguard biodiversity but also empower local communities. CEPF now seeks to capture and share these lessons in a practical format to guide conservation practitioners across different contexts.
The knowledge product will be aimed at technical staff in civil society organizations engaged in biodiversity conservation. It will provide practical guidance on strategies, methods, challenges, and lessons related to ecological restoration, highlighting gender-responsive approaches that ensure inclusive participation. The final product may take the form of a manual, document, video, or another innovative medium to maximize accessibility and reach.
As part of the consultancy, the selected consultant will review reports and materials from CEPF grantees and other organizations working on ecological restoration. An important component will be facilitating a roundtable in Brazil, bringing together practitioners such as the Cerrado das Águas Consortium, COOSERT, Instituto Ekos Brasil, ECOA, Rede de Sementes do Cerrado, and Instituto New Era. This forum will serve as a platform to exchange insights and shape the content of the knowledge product.
The consultancy will run from 1 October to 30 November 2025, with an estimated 20 working days. Draft deliverables are expected by 15 November, and final outputs will be submitted by the end of the month. The knowledge product will be produced in Portuguese and made available electronically through the CEPF website and other dissemination channels, including social media and international forums.
By commissioning this work, CEPF aims to create a practical and replicable resource that empowers conservation practitioners with proven methods of ecological restoration. The initiative will not only amplify successful strategies from the Cerrado but also inspire similar efforts in biodiversity hotspots around the world.
