Request for Proposal: Improving Health Outcomes in Oncology

Astellas is currently accepting proposals to support and collaborate with external partners to help remove barriers to healthcare and strengthen healthcare systems.
Astellas’ Access to Health donation program support focuses on underserved populations through action-based programs in countries and territories in which Astellas has a business presence. They are interested in funding programs with external organizations that positively impact societies in which there are anticipated synergies with Astellas’ Sustainability goals.
Examples of Healthcare System Strengthening programs can include, but are not limited to: Activities to improve medical infrastructure, health screening and diagnosis; improving health outcomes, concentrating on access to needed care.
Expected Services
- They ask selected organization(s) to collaborate with Astellas in the following ways:
- Share quarterly program development status updates with Astellas over the course of program implementation.
- Participate in initial announcement and program launch communications efforts led by Astellas.
- Collaborate with Astellas’ Access to Health team to share stories of progress, impact and positivity that can be promoted within the community, media and to other stakeholders.
- Cross-promote stories on donation recipient’s social media channels and website, if applicable.
- Capture and share photos with Astellas (including photo releases), where appropriate, to help illustrate the funded program and its positive impact on targeted communities
Who can apply?
- They accept applications from organizations that:
- Have been deemed in good faith to be a tax-exempt organization registered under national tax laws (such as a public charity described in section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, or an equivalent organization in markets outside the U.S).
- Have a demonstrated history of achieving stated objectives and proven ability to measure and report on results.
- Have the ability to work with in-country implementing partners including organization vetting, defining success measures, and ongoing touch points to ensure program metrics are being met.
Who cannot apply?
- Astellas does not provide funding for:
- Patient assistance programs or activities which otherwise support patients financially.
- Capital campaigns and requests for support for capital equipment.
- Sponsorships & Exhibits, or other events and fundraising programs.
- Fundraisers such as golf outings and galas.
- Corporate Memberships (e.g., trade associations, Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association).
- Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR) of Astellas marketed products or Investigator Initiated Trials for Compounds in Development.
- Independent Medical Education (IME) Grants; CME Grants.
- Product Donations.
- Lobbying activities, and contributions to political candidates, political parties, political action committees (PACs), or other political organizations established under Internal Revenue Code Section 527.
- Professional medical associations or societies.
- Charitable organizations with administrative costs totaling more than 25% of proposed total budget.
- Endowments.
- Religious groups for religious purposes.
- Individuals, including academic scholarships for individuals.
- Medical fellowships or residencies
- Charitable organizations that are private foundations.
- Individuals, including scholarships for individuals.
- Third parties or representatives of charitable organizations.
- An activity that has already happened
Criteria
- Programs submitted in response to this RFP should:
- Address health disparities of marginalized groups, and progress timely diagnosis and linkage to quality care for these groups.
- Align with Astellas’ therapeutic areas and improve health outcomes in oncology, in particular gastric cancer and/or bladder cancer.
- Be located in countries with an Astellas business presence, with a preference for programs in Australia, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea or Taiwan.
- Builds on existing or extends ongoing program activities which have already been proven impactful.
- Is embedded in the local community and ensures local ownership of the program.
- Has a program length of 1 year; with a maximum funding amount of USD 250,000, with a fixed exchange rate of USD1/JPY145; with administration cost limited to a maximum of 15%
- Be limited to less than 25% of the organization's total revenue in the past 12 months.
- Not be linked—directly or indirectly—to prescribing, purchasing, or recommending Astellas products, or to any regulatory or business transactions.
- Have the potential for Astellas employee engagement opportunities – for Astellas employees in country (e.g. in-person volunteering for project delivery, program promotion) and/or global staff members (e.g. virtual fundraising drives, online volunteering)– throughout the lifecycle of the program.
