The Novo Nordisk Foundation is inviting applications to recognize and highlight a team of teachers (two or three teachers) who have collectively made an extraordinary effort to educate and qualify the country’s interdisciplinary students at universities and have set an example which inspires at international level.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation’s Prize for Interdisciplinary Science Teachers at Universities is aimed at committed and talented teachers who are full-time permanent employees at the associate professor or higher level, or on tenure-track at the assistant professor level, and who teach subjects combining Natural, Technical or Health Science topics in interdisciplinary educational programmes in the Danish Realm.

Committed and talented teachers; full-time permanent employees at the associate professor or higher level, or on tenure-track at the assistant professor level; teach subjects combining Natural, Technical or Health Science topics in interdisciplinary educational programmes in the Danish Realm.

The prize is awarded annually and consists of a total sum of DKK 1,500,000. Each educator receives a personal honorarium of DKK 25,000, while the remainder is allocated as an educational funding grant to the university. The portion awarded to the university must be used by the team for the development of interdisciplinary science teaching, which may include the purchase of experimental equipment, upgrading of teaching facilities, development projects, or inspiration trips to other universities.

The award is specifically presented to teams of two or three teachers who are nominated by the rector or the dean on behalf of the rector for education. Students and colleagues are encouraged to propose candidates to the dean or rector, who can then make the official nomination. Importantly, only one team of teachers can be nominated for the prize from the same university.

The selection process is managed by the Committee on The Novo Nordisk Foundation Teaching Prizes, which evaluates the nominations and determines the successful awardees. The prizes are presented either at the recipient’s university celebration or during the annual teaching symposium at the university.

The announcement of the prize will also receive wide recognition, including a publication in Science magazine. This will feature a two-page advertorial highlighting the Foundation’s motivation for granting the award along with the winners’ descriptions of their achievements and ambitions regarding teaching that led to the recognition.
