The The Nordic Council of Ministers is accepting applications for Biodiversity sub-programme, under the Nordic Nature Programme, support Nordic cooperation projects that contribute to halting the loss of biodiversity.
Priorities
- The Biodiversity sub-programme for the 2026 call for proposals has three overall focus areas: The Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework Agreement in a Nordic perspective, Synergies between cultural heritage and biodiversity, and Consideration for cultural environments and nature.
- The Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework Agreement in a Nordic perspective:
- Applications can be made for support for projects that strengthen the Nordic region's ability to meet the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework Agreement. The projects can have a broad or specific approach and should be based on professional and management-relevant issues. Politically relevant challenges in a Nordic context will be given high priority.
- Synergies between cultural heritage and biodiversity:
- Preserving cultural heritage and restoring natural ecosystems is fundamental to sustainable development. However, nature restoration and cultural heritage conservation are often handled separately, sometimes with conflicting goals.
- Consideration for cultural environments and nature:
- Support can be sought for projects that strengthen Nordic cooperation on consideration for biodiversity and cultural environments in, for example, managed forests. There is a need for a comprehensive overview of existing regulations, instruments and practices in the Nordic countries. Focus should also be on experiences with cooperation and guidance.

- Fund: DKK 900,000.
- Project period: Up to 1 year (2026)
- Consideration for cultural environments and nature
- Pool: DKK 1,000,700.
- Project period: Up to 2 years (2026-2027)
Eligibility Criteria
- Municipal, regional or national authorities, universities and colleges, research institutes and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for contributions. Commercial companies cannot be main applicants and recipients of contributions, but can, for example, be included as project participants, participate in the project group or be a project implementer on behalf of the project owner.
- At least three Nordic countries must be represented in the project. Or two Nordic countries if the third country is Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania. Additional countries can also participate in the project.
- Support is available in the following countries: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and Åland.
Ineligibility Criteria
- The project application must not be in the nature of research support.
