Since its inception in May 2024, the scheme has made multiple rounds of awards—supporting initiatives through funds allocated in July and November 2024, and February 2025—showcasing the Council’s growing commitment to enriching the town’s social fabric.

Among the impactful projects funded, Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School received a grant to develop a sensory play and learning garden, while Whitfield Tabernacle strengthened its presence with new signage, insurance, and essential repairs. The Heritage Museum Trust’s ambition to go solar was boosted by support for renewable energy investments, and they are BS15 secured funding to establish a multifaceted community hub that includes a food club, allotment, and café. Kingswood Rugby Club improved accessibility for all members by extending pathways around new facilities, while the Brightwell provided subsidized oxygen therapy to locals living with neurological conditions, helping to reduce health inequalities. A community festival celebrating cultural diversity, delivered in partnership with Movema and Nest, will take place in Kingswood Park, reinforcing the town’s spirit of inclusion and creativity.

Further recipients included the History Society, which strengthened its annual programming and online presence, Turtle Play Scheme, which supports school holiday activities, and the Date Palm Foundation, which transformed outdoor areas into inclusive spaces for worship and play. The year’s funds have fostered projects that bring people together, enhance accessibility, celebrate culture, and reinforce community wellness.

Looking ahead, the Council has announced its Community Grant Scheme for 2025 to 2026, creating exciting opportunities for new applicants. The grants pot includes small grants of up to £500 for revenue projects, medium grants of up to £5,000 for both revenue and capital initiatives, and one large grant ranging from £5,000 to £10,000 dedicated to capital projects.

The Council provides detailed guidance to help applicants succeed. Prospective groups must first check eligibility, ensure that their project aligns with the purpose and priorities of the scheme, and review the criteria carefully. Applications are to be submitted electronically by email, accompanied by all supporting information, and should be completed in full before the deadlines. The town clerk is available for support, making it easier for applicants to strengthen their submissions rather than struggle alone.

The Council also reminds applicants of a few important cautions. Groups should not canvas councillors to influence the decision, and late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Projects should not begin before funding decisions are made, and applicants are encouraged to seek support from other sources rather than relying solely on town council funds.
