The Gulbenkian Institute for Advanced Study Scholarships supports internationally renowned scholars in conducting independent research for a limited period—typically three to nine months—in a stimulating intellectual environment with few regular obligations.
The Gulbenkian Institute for Advanced Studies was established by the Calouste Foundation Gulbenkian with the aim of allowing internationally renowned academics to carry out research of interest to you, for limited periods of time, in an intellectual environment stimulating and free from constraints.
Costs Covered
- The scholarship includes travel expenses, travel and health insurance, a monthly stipend and a partial housing allowance.
Eligibility Criteria
- Under this Regulation, applications submitted by persons are eligible:
- Individuals, namely professionals linked to the Academy independently or with affiliation, emeritus professors, other professionals not affiliated with the Academy, and artists. They are accepted applications in any scientific field as long as the work to be developed does not have laboratory or experimental requirements.
- The following are grounds for automatic exclusion of applications:
- The initial or subsequent failure to fulfill one or more admissibility conditions provided for in this Regulation;
- Failure to comply with any obligations set out in this regulation;
- Failure to comply with any obligations under other initiatives developed by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation;
- Failure of the candidate to pass the preliminary assessment of their suitability and exposure to risk money laundering, terrorist financing and/or corruption and offenses related activities carried out by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation under the terms of article 8 of this regulation;
- Failure by the candidate to provide the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation with the information and documents described in Articles 5 and 8 of this Regulation;
- The candidate is unable or prevented from receiving the scholarship due to any type of situation or conflict, potential or actual, that may prevent, hinder or impair the regular granting of the scholarship and/or fulfilling the purposes associated with it, including, without exclude other circumstances, as a result of sanctions or restrictive measures decreed by the European Union and/or the United Nations;
- The candidate has been a beneficiary of a Gulbenkian Institute for Advanced Study Fellowship in the previous 5 years.
Application Requirements
- For the purposes of the previous number, applications are submitted through the portal.
- MyGulbenkian and must be accompanied by the following documentation:
- Curriculum vitae;
- Brief description of the proposed activities;
- Names of two people who may be asked for references.
