The UN Women Sierra Leone is seeking to engage 3 women-led/women focused CSOs to participate in an initiative aimed at strengthening other CSOs organizations’ capacities to play an effective role to strengthen Women's rights movement and civil society organisations (CSO) to effectively influence and advance progress on ending violence against women and girls (EVAWG) and harmful practices (HP).
General overview of services required/results
- The 3 organizations will deliver programmes in support of Sierra Leonean women and girls in Moyamba, Falaba and Kailahun, and receive dedicated training and guidance by UN Women to deliver on:
- Enhancing the capacity of women’s rights groups, in particular grassroots organisations, thereby strengthening the women's movement, ensuring it remains a driving force in advancing gender equality and ending violence against women and girls.
- Gender equitable social norms, attitudes and behaviours change at community and individual levels to prevent violence against women and girls and harmful practices, including as a result of women’s economic empowerment interventions.

- The budget for this proposal should be USD 100,000.
Duration
- Project Duration: approximately 1 year (Project to be completed by end of July 2026).
Description of required services/results
- Overall Goal: All women and girls, particularly those most vulnerable, live a life free of violence and harmful practices
- Outcome 1: Women's rights movement and civil society organisations (CSO) are strengthened and more effectively influence and advance progress on ending violence against women and girls (EVAWG) and harmful practices (HP).
- Outputs:
- Output 1.1 Women's rights groups and relevant CSOs, have increased opportunities and support to share knowledge, partner and advocate for GEWE and ending VAWG
- Output 1.2 Women's rights groups and relevant CSOs are better supported to use social accountability mechanisms to support their advocacy
- Output 1.3 Women's rights, youth groups and relevant CSOs representing groups facing multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination/marginalisation have strengthened capacities and support to jointly design, implement and monitor programmes on the effectiveness of ending VAWG/HP coordinating mechanisms at district and national levels.
- Outcome 2:
- Performance indicators and performance monitoring approach:
- The RPs will be expected to develop a performance monitoring framework, including performance indicators in collaboration with UN Women in order to assess performance and progress of the RPs and their technical and institutional capacity building, etc. These will be developed in the first 2 months of the project, in collaboration with UN Women.

Competencies
- Technical/functional competencies required:
- Be Local Women-led Organization (WLO) or a Women’s Rights Organisation (WRO) having a governance body, broader local presence, good number of paid staff
- Legally constituted organization with a valid registration in Sierra Leone.
- Have an active bank account in order for UN Women to transfer funds.
- Operational presence in one or more of the Districts in Westen Area, Kailahun. Moyamba and Falaba
- Previous engagement in providing Ending Violence Against Women and Women’s Movement Building/Development programming in the past 5 years
- Exclusion criteria will include at a minimum the following:
- Organizations who do not have legal status in Sierra Leone.
- Organizations who are on the consolidated UN Security Council Sanctions list.
- Organizations who are being investigated for fraud, corruption, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation or other wrongdoing.
- Organizations who are a government agency or institution, UN agency, private individuals, or a private sector entity.
