The Department of Canadian Heritage, through its Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Program, is offering a new funding opportunity to support community-led efforts to prevent and address hate.

This initiative, known as the “Projects, Anti-Hate Call,” is intended for organizations seeking to create impactful, intersectional projects that promote inclusion, strengthen community resilience, and reduce social fragmentation across Canada.

Eligible applicants include not-for-profit organizations, educational institutions, Indigenous governments and organizations, and municipal or regional public agencies. The proposed projects must demonstrate a clear connection to the program’s core objectives by either improving strategies to combat hate or enhancing support systems for individuals and communities affected by it.

Projects can span up to 36 months in duration but must conclude no later than March 31, 2029. Funding can be directed toward a wide range of activities, including training programs, mentorship opportunities, policy development, workshops, and the creation of safe spaces for healing and dialogue.

Covered expenses may include staff salaries, consultant fees, travel, materials, promotional work, and administrative costs within defined limits. However, capital projects, partisan activities, and ongoing media productions are excluded from eligibility. Each project may receive up to $1,000,000 in funding, though most projects are expected to receive approximately $200,000. Total funding from all government sources must not exceed 100% of the project’s eligible costs.

This funding opportunity offers organizations a meaningful way to contribute to building safer, more inclusive communities by addressing hate at its roots and empowering affected populations with resources, networks, and collective support.
