The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has launched a compelling call for proposals that address a persistent obstacle in effective disaster risk management: the gap between risk information and real-world decision-making.

While advances in data collection offer rich insights into hazards, vulnerabilities, and exposure, many countries continue to struggle with applying that information to inform resilient policy and practice.

This initiative seeks to fund projects that bridge this critical divide. Proposals should demonstrate how risk data can be translated into actionable strategies, ensuring that access to information results in better governance and mitigation. The emphasis is on fostering transformative applications of existing knowledge—whether through innovative platforms, policy advocacy, or systems that enable communities and decision-makers to act in real time.

The scope of supported proposals will likely span diverse contexts and approaches. From enhancing data visualization tools to training government bodies in integrating risk information into planning, UNDRR encourages creative avenues that make risk data meaningful and usable. Projects grounded in local needs, aligned with national frameworks, and capable of driving measurable outcomes are especially welcome.

This call is anchored in the broader Sendai Framework vision, which underscores the need for a deep understanding of disaster risk and improved governance. By funding efforts that close the gap between information and action, UNDRR aims to contribute to more resilient societies that not only understand risk but actively manage it.

Regarding budget and administrative requirements, the proposed project must be completed within 12 months. The maximum amount that can be requested from UNDRR for implementation is USD 230,000. Each project proposal should not exceed 10 pages in length, excluding attachments such as registration documents or staff CVs. These guidelines ensure that applications are focused, actionable, and well-aligned with the objectives of the program.
