Call for Proposals: Affordable, Nutritious Foods for Young Children in Mozambique
Section
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund has launched a call for expressions of interest to support innovative, low-cost initiatives aimed at improving the nutrition of infants and young children aged 6 to 23 months in Mozambique.
This opportunity focuses on Sofala Province and seeks proposals that promote the production and accessibility of affordable, nutrient-dense complementary foods using locally sourced ingredients.
With funding of $150,000 available, the initiative is designed to strengthen climate-resilient and low-emission food systems that align with principles of environmental sustainability. The objective is to combat the triple burden of malnutrition by encouraging healthy eating behaviors, reducing dependency on ultra-processed foods, and promoting the consumption of fresh or minimally processed local foods.
The selected project will contribute to UNICEF Mozambique’s Country Programme Outcome 200, which aims to ensure more children under five, women of reproductive age, and adolescents benefit from coordinated, sustainable nutrition and health services. It will also support Output 200.001, strengthening leadership and institutional capacity to design and implement multisectoral nutrition actions across various levels of government and society.
Applicants should demonstrate sector expertise in nutrition—particularly in infant and young child feeding, malnutrition prevention, micronutrients, and sustainable food systems. Proposals must clearly define activities and expected results, address the specific dietary needs of children aged 6–24 months, leverage local food systems and cultural practices, and incorporate renewable energy solutions suitable for low-resource or rural environments.
UNICEF is especially interested in organizations with a proven track record in food processing, business development, and the transformation of safe, accessible, and desirable nutritious foods.
