The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund is seeking applications for Scaling middle level ALP/NFE programs in primary level schools through introducing second shifts for equitable access to non-formal education for marginalized OOSC/A including dropouts (Girls) in Sindh.

Objectives
  • Increasing enrollment of children, particularly girls, at ECE, primary, and middle school levels.
  • Reducing the number of out-of-school girls at the middle school level.
  • Improving foundational literacy and numeracy test scores for Grade 3 students in English, Sindhi, Urdu, numeracy, and socio-emotional learning (SEL).
  • Enhancing teachers’ FLN competencies. Adolescent girls in the NFE/ALPs will be engaged in adolescent development initiatives through knowledge building, enhancing life-skills and livelihoods skills for personal growth and self-empowerment so they make informed decisions about their own future. Adolescent Champion Clubs will be established, and girls will be developed as Young Champions through providing specialized training on critical thinking, leadership skills, exposure to sustainable green skills, developing their mindset for igniting entrepreneurial ventures for innovation and economic growth and how they can champion climate action for a sustainable future. Girls in Adolescents Club will co-create and develop their own action plan comprised of knowledge and skillsets they wish to acquire that will lead them towards being an empowered citizen.

Expected Results
  • UNICEF to achieve following key interventions/expected results:
    • 3,600 adolescent girls having access to middle level ALP/NFE programs including gender –appropriate WASH facilities, Health & Hygiene Sessions and MHM support (in a culturally relevant manner).
    • 3,600 adolescent girls receive education supplies including school in box (SIB), students learning kits (SLK), Recreational kits (RKs), Teachers Guide, MHM Kits, NFE textbooks (package D&E;) and other support materials etc. Supplies will be provided by UNCIEF for distribution by the partner.
    • NFE Facilitators trained in NFE package D & E, classroom management skills, health, and hygiene, MHM, and Mental Health and Psychosocial (MHPSS) and Inter-personal communication (IPC) for continuing learning in middle level ALP/NFE programs. Training manuals already exist and will be provided by UNICEF, IEC as well.
    • Members of Village Education Committees (VECs) participate in educational activities and are aware of their roles & responsibilities with knowledge of inter-personal communication (IPC) health & hygiene, MHPSS, functioning of NFEs and GBV.
    • Assessment and Validation of sites (for selecting primary schools for second shift NFEs).
    • Health and hygiene sessions including MHM sessions for girls. MHM training materials will be provided by UNICEF.
    • Community engagement sessions/meetings to discuss educational/learning needs, activities related to child protection, inclusion, nutrition, health, and hygiene, GBV, PSEA, etc.
    • Formation and training of Adolescent Champion Club – standardized training materials will be provided by UNICEF.
    • Regular coordination and review meetings with District education offices/District Education Group.
    • Participation in DEG meetings
    • Training and/orientation sessions for all project staff on project intervention, PSEA, GBV and SBC standardized training materials will be provided by UNICEF.
    • Develop and disseminate key messages in the local language on Adolescent nutrition.
    • Conduct and facilitate a high-level workshop to document good practices in Non-Formal Education (NFE), promote sustainability, and engage government counterparts in scaling effective model
