The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is requesting proposals for implementation of education Interventions for forcibly displaced populations in Nyarugusu and Nduta refugee camps, as well as surrounding host communities - Education.

This initiative focuses on comprehensive education services for refugees residing in the Nyarugusu and Nduta camps, as well as displaced learners in Dar es Salaam. The objective is to provide a structured and inclusive educational framework that not only meets academic needs but also fosters long-term development and integration.

The implementing partner will play a pivotal role in managing 46 camp-based schools, ensuring smooth enrollment, consistent student attendance, and reliable data management through tools such as the Refugee Education Management Information System (REMIS). School coordinators will be trained and deployed to maintain and improve school operations. The accurate collection and use of data will drive planning and enhance access to education for all refugee learners.

Improving education quality is another central goal. The selected partner will work closely with local institutions such as the Kasulu Teachers’ College and the DRC Inspectorate to deliver continuous professional development for teachers. These efforts will emphasize modern teaching methods, digital literacy, and assessment strategies. Teachers and students alike will benefit from well-equipped learning centers that provide digital resources and up-to-date learning materials. Special attention will be given to students with disabilities to ensure inclusive learning environments.

The initiative also underscores the importance of child protection and safety within schools. The implementing organization will integrate education with protective services by collaborating with child protection actors. Efforts will focus on preventing abuse, promoting gender-based violence awareness, and strengthening safeguarding policies. Safe extracurricular activities, such as sports and clubs, will be encouraged to create a nurturing environment for students.

Effective coordination and advocacy will be key components of this partnership. The organization will be responsible for mobilizing resources, engaging with government stakeholders, and ensuring that refugee education is reflected in national policies and systems. Active participation in both local and national coordination platforms will help align refugee education with the broader education agenda in Tanzania.

Finally, the program also aims to expand access to tertiary education and technical and vocational training (TVET). The implementing partner will support students by promoting scholarship opportunities, assisting with application processes, and facilitating certificate equivalency through collaboration with authorities like NECTA. This will open new pathways for refugee youth to pursue higher education and skills development, leading to better integration and long-term self-reliance.

This initiative presents a robust platform for meaningful impact, combining access, quality, safety, advocacy, and opportunity in a comprehensive response to the educational needs of displaced communities in Tanzania.
