$500,000 to $1 million

The Tiny Blue Dot Foundation is inviting researchers to submit proposals for neuroscientific studies exploring a concept known as the "Perception Box."

They aim to support up to ten rigorous projects that probe how the experiences and neural processes shaping their perception can be expanded—helping individuals change their mental frameworks to reduce anxiety, enhance empathy, and foster greater self-awareness.

Researchers are encouraged to explore innovative techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, breathwork, neuromodulation, psychedelics, AI, and virtual reality. The Foundation is particularly interested in work with young people aged 5 to 18, although proposals targeting adult populations are also welcome. Projects aimed at infants or toddlers under the age of five fall outside the scope of this call.

The funding process unfolds in two stages. First, applicants submit a letter of intent. A selection of around 30 promising applicants will then be invited to develop full proposals, which will undergo thorough review. Successful projects may receive funding for up to three years, with a total budget of up to USD 900,000—covering research costs and up to 15 percent in overhead.

The timeline begins with the opening of the letter of intent phase in early September, followed by an LOI guidance webinar. Shortlisted applicants will be notified in December and will receive full proposal guidance early the following year. Final proposals are due by early March, with the chosen projects announced around July.

Applicants must represent accredited institutions such as universities or nonprofit research organizations and hold advanced research credentials. All proposals must be submitted in English and comply with ethical requirements, data sharing standards, and financial screening protocols. The Foundation places strong emphasis on scientific rigor, relevance to expanding the "Perception Box," and the potential to deliver transformational impact in mental health and well-being.
