The Auckland Council is requesting applications for its Papakura Youth Scholarship Programme to help young people in Papakura connect, thrive and achieve their aspirations.

If you are aged between 12 and 24 years old, you can apply for a grant to help fund:

  • Your move into further education, a trade or vocational training
  • Youth or leadership development.
Funding Information
  • Grant value: Up to $ 1,500.
Uses of the Grants
  • This grant must be used for:
    • Undertaking trades or vocational training
    • Undertaking tertiary study in New Zealand
    • Participating in a leadership development course
    • The board will consider funding course related costs only where fees are not covered by the government
Funding Priorities
  • They encourage applications from youth seeking support to:
    • Achieve good health and well-being
    • Access technology resources
    • Access learning and development opportunities to build leadership experience within their community
    • Develop social enterprise or community projects
    • Attend conferences, programmes or training for personal development
    • Run events or programmes to cater for community interest and need
    • Pay education and tertiary related fees
Expected Outcomes
  • Their grants programme supports projects that:
    • Help build a strong local economy
    • Provide opportunities for young people to connect with each other and lead active healthy lives
Eligibility Criteria
  • To be eligible to apply, you must:
    • Be aged 14 – 24
    • Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
    • Include a reference letter from your school principal, teacher, tertiary tutor, community leader, or employer in support of your application
    • Reside in Papakura and can demonstrate a strong connection to the Papakura
Assessment Criteria
  • A scholarship assessment panel will be set up by the Papakura Local Board. Applicants will be notified of the decision a few weeks after the decision date.
  • The Papakura Local Board reserves the right to cancel any scholarship (in whole or in part) at any time if it discovers that any information provided by the applicant is not true, was misleading, or in the board’s view the applicant has behaved in a manner that is not befitting of a scholarship recipient.
  • Applicants will need to provide documentation confirming enrolment in tertiary study or bookings for leadership courses after the grant has been decided, but before the grant will be paid.
