Apply for Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program in Indonesia
Section
The American Indonesian Exchange Foundation is requesting applications for its Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program to support Indonesian academics who hold a doctoral degree and professionals with an equivalent level degree to develop or update their research through interaction with distinguished counterparts at an accredited university or a public or private, non-profit research institute in the United States for a period of three to six months.
Grantees are advised to coordinate the starting date of their preferred program with the dates recommended by the American university in the event of any schedule changes on the university’s part. Applicants for this program should be Indonesian citizens and residents in Indonesia throughout the nomination and selection process. They should possess leadership qualities and experience in community service, have a demonstrated commitment to their chosen field of study, and be proficient in English. Applicants must also have an outstanding academic record and demonstrate that they can realistically conduct research in the United States.
Individuals are ineligible if they are employees, close family members of an employee, or dependents of an employee of AMINEF, the US Embassy, or the US Department of State. The program is not for those currently teaching, studying, or conducting research in the US, or who have received a Fulbright grant within the past five years. Permanent residents of the US, or those currently living in the US, are ineligible. Individuals who have received a J-1 visa in the category of Professor/Research Scholar within the past two years are also ineligible. Preference will be given to qualified applicants who have not had recent and substantial experience in the United States and have not previously received a Fulbright scholar grant. The grants are not for the principal purpose of attending conferences or completing doctoral dissertations.
Applicants must hold a doctoral or equivalent professional training or experience at the time of application. They should demonstrate sufficient English-language proficiency to conduct research in the US, though it is not necessary to submit a TOEFL score. Applicants should have contacted or identified a potential research partner or institution in the US, although a letter of invitation is not required at the time of application. They should also have plans to complete and publish their research upon the completion of the program.
The minimum period for an award is three months, and the maximum is six months. The grants will provide a monthly stipend, a direct-flight, round-trip economy class air ticket, a professional and settling-in allowance, and qualifying university lab and research fees as necessary. No dependent support will be available. The application deadline is November 3, 2025.
A complete application includes an online application form, a project statement of three to five pages, a bibliography of up to three pages, a curriculum vitae of up to six pages, and a letter of invitation if available. Applicants must also submit three letters of recommendation and copies of their academic transcript and diploma in the original language with an English translation, as well as a copy of a valid identity document.
