Australian Embassy in Egypt’s Direct Aid Program
Section
The Australian Embassy in Cairo has announced the opening of the Direct Aid Program (DAP) for 2025–26, a small grants initiative funded through Australia's aid budget and administered locally.
Open to not-for-profit organizations including NGOs, community groups, academic institutions, and cultural bodies registered with Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity, the program supports projects across Egypt, Sudan, and Eritrea.
The DAP seeks impactful development projects with tangible outcomes in sectors such as education, health, water and sanitation, environmental protection, women’s empowerment, support for persons with disabilities, livelihoods, food security, and human rights. The program emphasizes community-driven development and sustainable results, favoring proposals where applicants contribute labor, materials, or resources toward implementation.
Applicants are expected to provide clear and realistic project descriptions, well-structured timelines, and detailed budgets that explain all costs, especially ongoing or recurrent expenses. Organizations should also demonstrate relevant project experience and, where minors are involved, submit a child protection policy. The program generally excludes commercial ventures, support for salaries or major assets, and initiatives aimed solely at promoting Australian interests. As funding is competitive, the embassy cannot offer individual feedback.
This call presents a valuable opportunity for grassroots and institutional actors in Egypt, Sudan, and Eritrea to access financial resources for community-led projects, strengthen their local impact, and contribute to sustainable development across a range of critical sectors.
