This call for proposals seeks to sustainably improve the technical skills, economic performance, and resilience of agricultural producers by promoting the ecological intensification of family farming systems.

It focuses specifically on promoting ecological intensification of family farming systems. This approach supports a sustainable increase in production while encouraging community management of natural resources and diversification of livelihoods for small family producers located in key watersheds.

The target areas for this initiative include the Lufira sector in the Kambove Territory of Haut-Katanga and the Luilu sector in the Mutshatsha Territory of Lualaba. Organizations receiving funding are expected to guide households through a transition toward more sustainable agricultural practices. This will involve providing local technical support and advisory services that consider both economic and environmental factors. Emphasis will be placed on developing agricultural advice and farm management centered around adopting agroecological methods in both crop and livestock systems.

The program will operate with a results-based management framework, including thorough monitoring, evaluation, and learning components. Supported farms’ geolocations must be documented and integrated into a future webmapping tool that tracks Enabel’s field achievements within these sectors.

A total indicative budget of 700,000 euros has been allocated for this call, split across two geographic lots. The first lot, covering the Lufira sector of Kambove Territory and several villages such as Mpoyo Group and Kapolowe, is allocated 400,000 euros. The second lot, focusing on the Luilu sector of Mutshatsha Territory including Kazembe and Mwanfwe Groups, has 300,000 euros available.

Grant requests must fall within specified funding ranges: between 300,000 and 400,000 euros for Lot 1, and between 250,000 and 300,000 euros for Lot 2.

Eligible applicants must be legal entities that are either public actors like universities or research centers, or private non-profit organizations such as NGOs or foundations. They must work coherently in agricultural and rural development and be established or represented within the Democratic Republic of Congo. Experience in implementing field projects in Haut-Katanga and Lualaba or similar contexts involving family farming, security challenges, land conflicts, and food insecurity is required.

Applicants should demonstrate experience in supporting rural households through individualized approaches and capacity-building. They must also take direct responsibility for the preparation and management of the proposed action, rather than acting as intermediaries. Additionally, prior management of grants or contracts of at least 200,000 euros for single lot applications or 300,000 euros for both lots is mandatory.

This call represents an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to sustainable agricultural development and community resilience in critical regions of the DRC through targeted support and ecological farming innovations.
