Short-Term Grants for Conferences and Research Travel in Armenia
Section
The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation offers Short-Term Grants to support students, early-career academics, and researchers in Armenia to participate in international academic events and research trips abroad.
The objective of the programme is to foster academic interaction and the exchange of knowledge and ideas. Grants are primarily awarded for short-term travel. In exceptional cases, longer research or study trips of up to three months may be considered. Applicants are expected to cover any shortfall using other sources of funding. The grant primarily covers the following expenses: registration fees, accommodation, travel costs and visa fees.
Funding is allocated based on destination, with fixed amounts as follows: Europe (EU and neighbouring countries) €1,000, Americas (USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, etc.) €1,200, Middle East and East Asia (Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, etc.) €800, Ex-USSR countries excluding the Baltic Republics €700, Far East (China, South Korea, India, Japan, Australia, etc.) €1,500, and for those travelling to Armenia from abroad €1,000.
Applicants must be currently studying or based in Armenia, under 35 years old at the time of application, and either a Master's or PhD student or a researcher from Armenia seeking to attend international conferences, seminars, short-term courses or research trips related to their field of study. The grants are open to applicants from all research fields. Applications from the humanities and social sciences will be prioritised, while special consideration will also be given to research related to environmental sustainability and climate change.
Evaluation is based on the academic relevance of the proposed event or research trip to the candidate's field of study, the candidate's academic merit, the quality of the proposal, the international significance of the academic event, and the strength of the letters of reference. Applicants must provide the required documents, including identification, academic certificates, curriculum vitae, letters of acceptance and support, a motivation letter, and depending on the application type, either a paper abstract or a research proposal.
Applications can be submitted online throughout the year, no sooner than six months and no later than two months before the forthcoming event. Grants are awarded once per year per applicant, with a maximum of two grants overall. Applications are reviewed monthly, and the average response time is one month.
