Applications for the autumn 2025 round are submitted through the Cancer Foundation Finland’s electronic grant application system. A research protocol and a list of the principal researcher’s publications from 2015–2025 must be included in the application. The application window begins on 2 June 2025 and closes at the end of the day on 20 August 2025. Late applications or those that do not comply with the instructions will be rejected.

Only one application per applicant is permitted, and a researcher may hold only one Cancer Foundation Finland grant at a time. The grants are intended to support research conducted in Finland and are restricted to senior-level researchers. It is not possible to apply for funding for research and product development projects at companies. Researchers or research teams funded by the tobacco industry are ineligible.

Applicants must also provide appendices as part of their application. The research protocol should be no more than five pages, including references, with a font size of at least 12 pt. The indicative structure for the research protocol includes background, research objective, research implementation and methods, schedule, division of labour among research team members, basis for cost estimate, ethical considerations, and the impact of the research. A list of the principal researcher’s publications from 2015–2025 must be appended. Publications must have been printed or published electronically in 2015 or thereafter; they may be “in press” if approved for publication, but “submitted” manuscripts are not accepted. Only five key publications are to be entered on the application form, while the complete list is included in the appendix. For clinical interventional studies or trials, applicants should enclose a study protocol or, if unavailable, a synopsis of the planned study or trial.
