The LEO Foundation Visiting Researchers Grant Program supports the temporary embedment of skin researchers in foreign research environments to foster genuine international collaborations and strengthen knowledge exchange between Danish and international skin research communities.

Purpose: The purpose of the LEO Foundation Visiting Researchers program is to stimulate a cohesive and agile skin research ecosystem by supporting temporary embedment of skin researchers in a foreign research environment with the aim of fostering genuine international collaborations and strengthening the exchange of knowledge, ideas, methodology, and technology between Danish and international skin research communities. The proposed research visit must have a clear focus within skin research and can be of a basic, translational, epidemiological, or clinical nature.

Applicants must be at or above postdoc level and employed at a university, hospital, or other non-profit research institution during the grant period. The program is anchored in Denmark, allowing applicants from Danish research institutions to visit abroad or applicants from international institutions to visit Denmark. A LEO Foundation Visiting Researchers grant is an individual grant at the disposal of the applicant if awarded and is administered by the involved Danish research institution.

The Round 2 call for 2025 opens on 5 August 2025, with applications due by 1 October 2025 at 16:00 CEST. Notifications will be made in December 2025, and the earliest possible grant start date is 1 February 2026. The grant can be up to DKK 2 million, covering research visits of at least three months, which can be continuous or divided into multiple visits, with one lasting a minimum of three months. The research visit must begin within 18 months of the grant offer.

Applications must be written in English and follow the required structure, including sections such as a scientific abstract, research visit plan, project references, and a layman’s abstract. Mandatory appendices include the applicant’s CV, a publication list, letters from the receiving and current institutions, and a support letter from the host research group. Applicants may include relocation costs and expenses for travel, running costs, publications, and administrative fees.

Proposals are evaluated by the LEO Foundation Grant Committee based on scientific quality, applicant merit, and feasibility, with some applications sent for external peer review. The final funding decision is made by the LEO Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Applications must be submitted through the LEOnora grant management portal, with applicants responsible for ensuring all mandatory documents are included before the deadline.

The LEO Foundation is among the world’s largest private funders of independent skin research, having invested more than EUR 195 million in the past decade to make Denmark a global leader in this field.
