Call for EOIs: Centre of Excellence for Prevention and Care for Wasted Children (Indonesia)

The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is calling for expression of interests for the Centre of Excellence for Prevention and Care for Wasted Children in South Sulawesi Province.
This partnership will focus on comprehensive capacity building for Posyandu cadres, frontline health workers, and university students, thereby strengthening early detection and management of child wasting in the province. Furthermore, this collaboration will jointly undertake critical analysis and advocacy for nutrition spending at the sub-national level, and conduct in-depth analysis of the underlying drivers of child wasting, ensuring evidence-informed interventions.

Expected Results
- The expected result of this partnership is divided into several outputs and activities based on the classification of supports provided for the government
- Output 1. The provincial and district governments have capacity to strengthen early detection, referral mechanism, and treatment of child wasting.
- Key activities:
- Rollout a comprehensive capacity-building to improve Community Health Volunteers (Posyandu Cadres) capacity and motivation to improve the uptake and delivery of integrated health & nutrition services.
- Support generating and applying new, relevant knowledge and best practices through conducting a series of webinars/learning sessions on nutrition issues, including the role of Posyandu Cadres for public, including frontline healthworkers, policy makers, Posyandu cadres, and university students.
- UNICEF jointly with the selected institution support the identification and analysis of context specific drivers of malnutrition in South Sulawesi Province.
- Introduce innovative practices and scale up innovations or success interventions and practices to District Health Offices (DHOs) such as family-led MUAC, ECD-led child wasting screening to support management of IMAM as part of the healthcare system transformation agenda.
- Provide technical assistance to districts received Ready-to-Use-Therapeutic-Food (RUTF) to optimize the utilization an uptake IMAMs services.
- Set up a mentorship programme allowing university students to support Posyandu Cadres on anthropometry measurement, result recording, referrals, family assistance during and after treatment, and home visits to enhance quality nutrition services at community platforms
- Key activities:
- Output 2. Local governments have enhanced capacity to optimize nutrition governance and decentralized fiscal planning and spending for nutrition programme
- Key activities:
- Support the field data collection (FGD, KII) for an analysis of effective budget spending, jointly identifying cost-effective strategies and areas for improvement in sub-national nutrition programs with UNICEF.
- Support consultations with relevant key stakeholders and disseminate findings to enhance sub-national budget spending in collaboration with UNICEF
- Provide joint monitoring and facilitate cross-learning opportunities among districts in South Sulawesi Province.
- Facilitate networking with other higher education institutions in South Sulawesi province to leverage nutrition issues, including child wasting.
