The Alberta Restorative Justice Grant supports initiatives that seek to hold offenders accountable and repair relationships damaged by crime outside the formal court system, resulting in meaningful outcomes and stronger community integration. Restorative justice fosters accountability, healing and reconciliation by encouraging individuals affected by crime, including both those harmed and those responsible, to engage in collaborative dialogue and take steps to repair the harm.

Purpose

• The Alberta Restorative Justice Grant supports the delivery of direct restorative justice services.
• The grant may be used to finance the direct operation of a program. Grant uses include:
  • wages
  • program administration
  • training
  • associated operational costs

Funding Information

• Grants will be limited to:
  • up to $50,000 per program for one year
  • established or ongoing programs
  • new programs in communities with a prior history of
    • restorative justice programs or
    • restorative practice in the justice system

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicants must be:
  • located in Alberta
  • one of the following:
  • a registered non-profit organization
  • a registered charity in good standing
  • a community-based coalition or network group with an incorporated fiscal agent
  • an Indigenous community, including band and tribal councils
  • a youth justice committee applying to fund activities not currently funded by the ministry
  • municipalities

• Ineligible applicants
  • individuals
  • academic institutions
  • for-profit organizations
  • crown corporations
  • police services
